Child Orthodontics

Children's braces on the NHS

We can provide orthodontics for children under the NHS. If your child has crowded teeth then they may need orthodontics to align the teeth. The first step is an initial appointment to assess the teeth. There are strict criteria that have to be met to determine whether a child is eligible for Government funded orthodontic treatment, known as the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN)

If your child fulfils the criteria for NHS treatment then they would then go onto a waiting list to start treatment. Very complex cases may be referred to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for advanced treatment. Mild crowding may not be eligible for NHS treatment in which case treatment could be offered privately.

Private dental braces for children

We also offer private orthodontic treatment for children who wish to avoid the waiting list or have only mild crowding for which NHS treatment is not available.

  • Tooth-coloured wires and brackets are available for an additional fee.

  • We can offer a patient finance scheme or monthly payment schedules.

More information on orthodontics can be found on the British Orthodontic Society website.
